"Establish and run an annual international opera and music festival which is unique in its character and high-standard in its quality and that on the one hand helps to build the cultural image of the city and to develop the economy and tourism, and on the other hand promotes the setting up of connections to international cultural and musical life." This is the statement of the founding charter of the "Bartók + ..." Miskolc International Opera Festival, which is expressed by the slogan of the festival as well: "Music is building the city!"
